I&E in a social media course – integrating employability

This case is anchored around a 5 ECTS social media course. It is a mandatory course for media students and elective for marketing students.
During the course students work with innovation methodologies in practice, a media production, and a lot of theory. Furthermore they work together with a company.

The Challenge – in short terms

The main challenges are
– Sharpening the innovation profile and the intrapreneurship profile of the course
– How to get student’s to reach out for the latest knowledge in the quickly developing field of Social Media.

– working with companies on practical cases 
– learning how to approach challenges in companies

– understand what companies demand from new employees 

Our vision of competences for students who have passed the course

Students in this course should be able to take care of social media tasks in companies and have certain skills that companies are seeking for. Students should also be able to work in a practical setting and apply their theoretical knowledge. Then it would be great if some students also find an interest in working with social media and increased the motivation for working with social media. Companies will sometimes find new employees within the group of students before they graduate.  

The teaching format

The teaching methods are lectures, companies presenting cases, group work on cases: SoMe productions, a springboard festival and a final oral exam. 
In the facilitation of group work we encourage groups to use design sprints methods.

The Challenges

– Being up to date with social media trends and finding theory that are up to date 
– Giving students a fundamental set of tools for innovative processes and the usability of different innovation processes in a professional context
– New and extended format for the Springboard festival 
– Forming better cases and making stronger relationship with companies 
– Helping students with testing their social media content in practical setting
